DIY Mini Cart Makeover!

Getting Jasper ready to drive has been an almost three year project in the making, so finally purchasing our first cart has been such an exciting step! I can’t believe that this kid is actually almost ready to drive.

For our first cart I really just wanted a simple entry easy. I’d been casually looking around for a little while but never jumped on anything. But once I saw this adorable little wooden easy entry posted for sale in a Facebook group I knew I had to have it!

The boyfriend and I drove out and brought home Jasper’s first cart last month in March. It’s been sitting in the hay loft at the barn for a few weeks now, and since I can’t use it YET, I decided to give it a little make over, and check to see if any repairs need to be done so that when the time comes to hitch, we’e all set.

First Things First – Clean Up!

All this cart needed was a little TLC. First, I gave it a little scrub down with my bottle of Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Multi-Surface I already had in the kitchen. To clean up the seat I used Armor All Leather Wipes. The finishing touch that really brought this beauty to life was a bottle of Pledge Wood Reviving Oil! Super easy, I just used a clothe to wipe down all of the wood parts and now my cart looks brand new!

Just look at the difference in the wood! Beautiful.

The Seat

I also sat in the cart to feel the balance. First thing I noticed is that the seat sits a little awkwardly low. I will probably first try getting a cushion to lift my seat a little and see if that helps. The seat also needs to be brought forward a little, and straightened out. But, I’ll also have to see how it sits exactly when hitched.

The Single Tree

I’m also thinking I would eventually like to replace this metal single tree for a wood one. The single tree that’s currently on the cart does feel very smooth, so I’m not going to jump on that – I just think it will be a nice touch!

Moving Forward

I am beyond excited to actually drive this little cart! It’s a perfect start for us and will look so nice in some schooling shows. With a few little upgrades along the way, Jasper and I will be enjoying many miles behind these wheels!
